Michelle O'Doherty
Michelle O' Doherty graduated with an Upper Second Class Honours degree in Biochemistry from Queen's University Belfast in July 2009, and accepted an offer from the Centre for Vision and Vascular Science (CVVS), at Queen's University Belfast, to take up a postgraduate position as a Ph.D. research student commencing in October 2009 until September 2012. She works under the supervision of Professor Alan Stitt focusing on the characterization and utilization of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) to repair and revascularize the ischaemic retina. During this time she has presented her work at a number of national and international conferences, and has been acknowledged as co-author on two published papers: 'Myeloid angiogenic cells (MACs) act as alternative M2 macrophages and modulate angiogenesis through IL-8' by R.J. Medina, C.L. O’Neill, M..T. O'Doherty, H. Knott, J. Guduric-Fuchs, T.A. Gardiner and A.W.
