Ruth Mackenzie
Ruth Mackenzie graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Genetics from the University of Glasgow in 2002 and carried out her postgraduate research studies at the British Heart Foundation Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre under the supervision of Professor Anna Dominiczak. She has presented this work at both national and international meetings, recently giving a paper at the American Heart Association 63rd High Blood Pressure Research Conference in Chicago, Illinois. Ruth is the recipient of two Young Investigator Awards and acted as the U.K. representative at the European Society of Hypertension Summer School 2007. She recently submitted her Ph.D. thesis entitled, ‘Oxidative Stress in Endothelial Cells of Patients with Coronary Artery Disease’ and currently awaits a date for her viva examination. Having received funding for an additional year, Ruth will remain in Glasgow and continue with her research into molecular mechanisms of endothelial oxidative stress.
