Clinical Science Young Investigator’s Award presented at the British Hypertension Society Annual Meeting

Clinical Science is pleased to announce the winner of the Young Investigator’s Award presented at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the British Hypertension Society held at St John’s College, Cambridge from 13-15 September 2004.

The winner was Dr Christian Delles (BHF Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre) for his presentation entitled ‘ A single nucleotide polymorphism in the human glutathione S-transferase mu type 4 gene (GSTM 4) is associated with impaired endothelial function and arterial hypertension'

Professor Neil Poulter, President of the British Hypertension Society, presented the Award. Dr Delles received a cheque for £250 and a free subscription to Clinical Science online.

Clinical Science has also agreed to sponsor a Young Investigator’s Prize at the 2005 Annual Meeting, to be held at Queens’ College, Cambridge, from 19-21 September.


Clinical Science Young Investigator Award presented at ISSFAL 2004

Carmen Patricia Pérez-Matute from the Department of Physiology & Nutrition at the University of Navarra, Spain, was awarded the Clinical Science Young Investigator Award at the recent 6th Congress of International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids in Brighton. Patricia's award-winning poster entitled "Increased Glucose Oxidation is involved in the Stimulatory Effect of EPA on Leptin Secretion in Primary Cultured Rat Adipocytes" was presented in the category on obesity and insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.


Clinical Science Poster Prize winner announced

Dr Abraham George (Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust, London) was awarded the Clinical Science Poster Prize for his presentation at the Renal Association Spring meeting in Aberdeen, April 2004. His presentation was entitled:

Dialysis Related Bacteraemia Surveillance: Lessons from the West London-CDC Pilot and a Proposal for a National Scheme


Clinical Science Young Investigator Award presented at the International Society of Hypertension Meeting in Brazil

Clinical Science is pleased to announce the winner of the Young Investigator Award presented at the 20th Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Hypertension.

This meeting took place from 15-19 February 2004 at the Transamérica Expo Center, São Paulo, Brazil.

The winner of the Award was Dr Lucinda Whiteley (Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary) for her presentation entitled 'Diabetes Mellitus as an Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Equivalent - 25 Year Follow-Up of the Renfrew/Paisley Population'.
